4 Things A Small Los Angeles Restaurant Chain Is Doing Right On Twitter: The Veggie Grill
Have you heard of The Veggie Grill? It’s an awesome Vegan restaurant in Los Angeles that currently has 5 locations (and growing!). Not only is their food awesome and super healthy, their Twitter account totally rocks. And, unlike most brands who have someone writing their social media, their Twitter account is run solely by VG Co-Ceo Kevin Boylan. So, why am I so obsessed with their Twitter feed?
Let me break down the 4 things that Kevin has managed to do very, very well:
1. Find the perfect voice and stick to it. I started following the Veggie Grill on Twitter after my first meal at their Sunset location in September 2009 and ever since, I’ve been extremely impressed with the quality of his tweets. While he does promote his brand and product, he does it in a way that is so friendly and relatable that you feel involved in a non-stop, interactive conversation with a good ol’ friend.

2. Reach out to people and be available. I couldn’t have been happier when I tweeted about one of my absolutely delicious meals at The Veggie Grill and then 30 minutes later was delighted to see a friendly response & thank you from Kevin. You better believe that the extra few minutes you spend responding to your followers counts for something! I felt like I was a part of the bigger picture with my Twitter handle on their stream.
3. Make it fun! Kevin is a successful businessman, which means he travels a lot. One of my favorite parts of his Twitter account is that he talks about the various things he’s doing and the interesting places he visits. He plays a fun “Where am I?” game in which he takes a Twitpic of where he is and has his followers chime in and guess! It’s a great way to break away from the monotonous tone of most business’ Twitter accounts.
4. Provide interesting content. From games and fun tidbits of info, to updating fans on new menu items and pictures, the feed is NEVER boring. Pics of Vegan Mac n Cheese? As Charlie Sheen would say, WINNING, duh!!! You can bet this is why the Veggie Grill has 42,200+ followers for a small restaurant chain in the Los Angeles area! You never feel like you’re being sold to, and I believe that is the absolute key to success in the ever-expanding world of social media.

Great work Betsy!
This is a great example of extending a Facebook Business Page into a mini website. Now that Static FBML is about to be history the solution is building Facebook Apps to add new pages.
